New Structure, New Piece.

New projection mapping project underway, finished making the physical version of the designed structure. This has been built using card board from cereal boxes … I have so much cereal now;

The visuals will be split between the figure and ground, with audio-reactive visual effects being mapped onto the objects in the foreground and pre-composed textures and effects in the background. One video is going to be split into 4 x 4 grid, creating sixteen sections that will be mapped to the front two faces of the cubes. The second video will be split in two and layered behind the objects.

The audio for this piece will be ‘Yesterday, Tomorrow, Today’ by Ital Tek, check it out below;

New piece coming soon!

Colour Cube

This piece has been created by using computer generated rhythms and projection mapping to imply motion onto a solid shape.

Each audio sample is linked to a specific face on the cube, and triggers the visual effect each time the computer randomly chooses to play that audio sample.

The audio consists of six individual samples and one pre-recorded audio track, which was generated using the same random method but is not running in real-time. This track controls the width of all six faces, resulting in louder amplitudes creating larger, wider faces.

Drone 3 (Chinese Dream)

Ambient soundtrack set to Super8 footage shot in China, Berlin and the UK.

These visuals were created in Max/MSP/Jitter and make use of multiple feedback loops to create a blurry, ethereal effect. A small amount of saturation was also added, which is controlled by the amplitude of the audio to add occasional vibrant glimpses of colour.

Projection Mapping Effects

Video demonstrating a number of different effects especially programmed to be mapped onto a specific 3D structure. These effects intend to explore the inside of a solid object and the area surrounding it by using video to invoke movement onto two faces of the object. The accompanying audio consists of sound effects that aim to reinforce the motions of each effect.

Visual effects were mostly programmed in Max/MSP/Jitter, with additional visual content created in After Effects. The projection mapping software used was VPT 6.0. The audio was recorded and produced in Ableton.

Cry

The visuals in this piece consist of two synthesized OpenGL NURBS surfaces and Mesh objects, one corresponding to the kick drum and the other corresponding to the snare drum. The synthesized objects are cross faded with multiple geometrical shapes, which change each time an amplitude threshold is crossed. This can be seen when the shapes switch places around the screen. A Different drawing primitive has been used for a better aesthetic look, so all the smaller collection of lines are vertices of the same shape.

The music is a quick sampling mash-up, with the drums being taken from the outro of a Meters track and the ambient, background drone created from a sample of church bells I recorded a while ago.

Ryat Series

A series of videos and still images demonstrating various audio-reactive visual effects, tested using tracks from the album ‘Totem’ by Ryat.

All effects were created using Max/MSP/Jitter, with audio analysis and video processing/synthesis programmed within the same patch and running in real time.
